It is sometimes of interest to identify seasonal precipitation statistics, such as determining the frequency and depth of storms coinciding with deicing activities at airports. NetSTORM can be used to censor a precipitation dataset according to daily temperature data criteria. A subsequent IDF analysis can then be performed to identify, for example, a 1-year 24-hour deicing condition storm depth.
The user must supply the names of valid NetSTORM-format temperature and precipitation files.
The Censor Precipitation by Temperature procedure creates a new precipitation file that retains only precipitation records for dates where the specified temperature parameter falls below the threshold specified by the user. For instance, selecting Minimum < 37 retains only precipitation occurring on days when the minimum temperature was less than 37 degrees.
